Carpet Removal
Pry the plastic covers off the passenger seat bolts and remove
the 4 13mm bolts and 2 phillips screws securing the seat runners to the
door sills and tunnel.
Pry the plastic covers off the driver seat bolts and remove
the 2 13mm bolts and 4 slotted screws securing the seat runners to the
door sills and tunnel.
Remove the 17mm bolt holding the seatbelt to each seat frame
and the electrical connections at the plug under the seat.
Remove the seats.
Remove the plywood horizontal box behind the seats by lifting
the front edge and pulling forward and out. Remove the carpet noting its
position and the staples along the forward edge.
Remove the 3 #4 phillips screws and cup washers securing
each of the rear quarter panels.
Remove the passenger quarter panel by carefully pulling down
toward the center of the car.
Before removing the drivers quarter panel in the same manner,
the top release handle must be removed. Remove the handle by prying up
on the narrow end of the inner trim piece and sliding it toward the knob.
The handle will then slide off. Note the location of the washers.
Remove the unbound carpet on the rear wall of the car. Note
its location under the top lip. Carefully remove any carpet residue and
if necessary clean with a solvent to insure good adhesion of the new carpet.
Remove the four main floor carpets. Note the heavy black
backing on both the drivers and passengers front floor. Using a razor knife
or similar, carefully remove the black backing and save for reuse.
Remove the 13 phillips screws holding both the chrome door
sill covers and place them all to one side.
Remove the sill carpets. Note the position around the seat
runners. Carefully remove any carpet residue and if necessary clean with
a solvent to insure good adhesion of the new carpet.
With the sills now removed, you can now remove the small
piece of carpet behind the console which is glued and screwed in place
with 2 phillips screws as well as the two pieces or carpet glued to the
small vertical wall behind the seats. Carefully remove any carpet residue
and if necessary clean with a solvent to insure good adhesion of the new
carpet.
Under the dash on the drivers side remove the 1 10mm bolt
and 3 phillips screws securing the under dash panel. Disconnect the light
wires and place to one side.
Under the dash on the passenger side, remove the 2 10mm bolts
and 2 phillips screws. Disconnect the light wires and place to one side.
CONSOLE CARPET
On LATE cars with separate carpet sides on each side of the
center console, remove the 2 forward phillips screws securing the panels
to the side of the console. The panels are also clipped from behind to
the center console. Use a wide, thin screwdriver to release the clips and
remove the panels.
On EARLYcars with a one piece console it will be necessary
to make a channel for the edge of the new carpet. With a razor knife, cut
thru the carpet approximately 1/2 inch away from the edge of the plastic,
be careful not to cut all the way thru the backing. Use a sharp putty
knife or similar to gently release the carpet under the plastic (approximately
24 inches each side). Start at the top and pull the carpet from under the
edge. Remove the rest of the existing carpet.
Remove the carpet pieces on the stiffener under each seat.
Vacuum and clean interior panels in preparation of installation.
INSTALLATION
Begin by comparing all the pieces received to the original
parts removed. Additional pieces may be included. These pieces reflect
changes in factory designs and may be discarded.
If all the pieces match, begin installation.
Start in the back, apply adhesive to all the metal of the
rear wall. Apply a small amount of adhesive to the middle of the carpet
piece and put in place with the top edge under the lip. Fold back the edges
from each corner in turn. Apply more adhesive to the back and press into
place.
Glue the door sill carpet pieces in place. Make sure they
are spaced away from the seat rail bolt position.
Apply glue to the metal on the vertical wall behind each
seat. Relieve the carpet pieces in the same manner as the originals. Apply
adhesive to the back and glue in place. Make sure the two bound pieces
butt hard together in the center.
Reinstall the chrome door sills with the 13 phillips screws.
Glue the small piece of carpet to the tunnel in the center.
Don't forget the 2 phillips screws.
Replace the rear quarter panels with the 3 #4 chrome screws
and cup washers.
Replace the top handle.
Glue the carpet to the plywood box, note the overhang. Staple
along lower forward edge.
Lower the box in place and push down against the clips.
Replace the carpet pieces on the stiffener under each seat.
Console Sides
On late cars, remove the carpet from the cardboard panels
covering each side of the console and glue the new pieces in place. Slide
the sides into the console and replace the 2 forward phillips screws.
On early cars, mask the edges of the plastic, apply adhesive
to the channel previously created and the face of the original backing.
Apply a small amount of adhesive to the center of the carpet piece and
push the bound edge into the channel. Glue the center in place, fold back
the edges, apply adhesive to the back and push into place. Reinstall the
phillips screw at the forward edge behind the accelerator.
Replace the underdash panels using the phillips screws and
10mm bolts. Don't forget the wires.
Floors
Install both rear floors. Note cutouts on drivers rear floor.
No glue is necessary.
Position the black padding removed from the original drivers
floor back on the drivers floor.
Place the drivers floor carpet in position tight against
the under seat stiffener. Mark the position of the accelerator.
Remove the carpet and cut out enough heelpad material to
allow the carpet to slide around the accelerator.
Check for fit. If ok, apply a small amount of adhesive to
the center of the underpadding and the center of the carpet and press in
place.
Remove from car, fold back edges and glue pieces together
completely.
Repeat the same process for the passenger floor. (No heelpad
cutout necessary on passenger side)
Install both front floor carpets.
Seats
Replace the seats. Make sure to reconnect the seat wiring
and seatbelt hardware.
Run both seats back and forth to insure they do not snag
on the new carpet.
Remove any protection and close the top.
We recommend the use of accessory mats to protect your new carpet.
Sets are available with or without logo.
