A Giulia or Giulietta spider seat  is comprise of a frame, pads and upholstery. Early seats had a rubber diaphragm supporting the pads and a wooden tacking strip around the edge of  both  cushion and backrest.  Later seats used webbing to support the cushion pads and a large rubber diaphragm behind the backrest pad, the wooden tack strip was replaced with a metal edging.  Both styles of seat had a finishing strip (trim flex or trim lock) applied to cover the edges of the upholstery. The early style tacked to the wooden tack strip while the later style was secured by clips. Both styles of seat had a combination perforated and plain panel glued to the back of the backrest. The factory only offered vinyl trimmed seats and door panels. Many restorers prefer the look and feel of real leather.
